The I-5 QMC worked through 2 rain delays to get in our second event at the Grays Harbor Mini Raceway.  Racers voted to shorten the event to 1 round of heats, instead of the normal 2, and the mains in order to get it done, making the handlers job even tougher on the new track.
In Jr Novice, Josiah Volz continued to show his talent by taking both the heat and the A main wins.  He fended off a hard charging Cale Shute who was lined up deep in the field after an opening lap incident sent him to the back.  Cale found the high groove to his liking and with 7 laps to go moved into second ahead of Dylan Volz.  With 3 laps to go a restart had Cale lined up behind the leader, but the high groove had gone away and Cale finished second.  Dylan finished third.
In Jr Honda, Nicki Hartman finished first again, but not before a truly exciting race in which each driver looked to take a shot at race leader Janell McPeake.  Janell led the first 15 laps while the rest dueled it out behind her, until a caution bunched up the field and Nicki took advantage on the restart.  Cassidy Forler followed her through taking over the second spot with Tucker Sprague in tow finishing third.
The Sr Honda race was a wild one with the leaders getting into lapped traffic on lap ten.  Ariel Biggs led from the pole for the first 20 laps until Nikolas Larson ran her down working his way through lapped traffic.  Nikolas led the rest of the way, picking up his first win of the '04 season, ahead of Ariel in second, and first year driver Angie Magnuson doing a terrific job rounding out the top three.
In Lt 160, Hannah Shute served notice on TJ Hartman that she's not going to stand by while he casually pursues another win.  Hannah started outside the front row and instantly put her new car into the lead leaving TJ wondering what just happened.  Experience prevailed though as on lap 4 TJ slid under her and proceeded to spend the next 2 minutes and 22 seconds showing the crowd why he loves the 160 class.  The race ran green to checkered with Hannah finishing second and Nikolas Larson finishing third.
The Jr 1/2 race had the crowd cheering as the drivers put on an excellent display of throttle and car control on the short track.  DJ McPeake led from the pole until lap 8 when Ryan Styger ran him down and proceeded to check out from the field.  The race was for second from that point on as Ryan's car was hooked up hard to the clay surface.  DJ ended up second with Seth Hespe rounding out the top three, in a race that had only one caution and left the crowd wanting more 1/4 midget action on the new speedway.
Racing resumes next Saturday, May 15th, but not before a Ribbon Cutting ceremony with Grays Harbor County officials taking part in the dedication of the new track.  The festivities get under way at 9:00 AM and we welcome everyone to come out to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma to join in the celebration.
