Let
me welcome all the novice drivers and their families to the I-5 QMC.
Our 2008 Novice training begins on Saturday, March 15, at the
Grays Harbor Mini Raceway. Please be prepared to begin promptly at 9:00
am each day. Click here for a comprehensive daily schedule available for viewing and printing.
There
are a few things that you can start teaching your child before he or
she gets behind the wheel of a ¼ midget. One of the most challenging
skills for a young driver is lining up. Click here for an easy exercise that you can do at home to give your driver a head start with this task.
Along with lining up, flag colors and understanding hand signals from the flag stand are a must for the beginning driver. Click here for a few quick & easy flag recognition exercises that can get your driver off on the right foot.
Please
work with your child to find his/her weaknesses and/or fears. We
as experienced handlers can help to put some of those fears to
rest. In addition, please keep in mind THESE ARE KIDS! The timeliness
and the way you conduct your home training is important. Attempt to
make the training a ‘fun time’, while still emphasizing the importance
of teamwork, concentration and following directions. These training
sessions are to teach your child to be safe, not to win. Winning will
come later, safety now will make sure of that!
Please bring your Novice Checklist
to each session. Attendance will be taken before and after each
session. Both handler and driver must attend all four sessions to
graduate. If you don’t attend all four sessions, you won’t graduate and
won’t be able to race. It is very important that your car is ready for
the first session. We could be on the track as soon as the first
session (the weather plays a big part in when we get on the track). We
will be performing safety inspections and helping ensure that you’re
familiar with properly securing the safety belts, wrist restraints and
neck collars. Any items that are not QMA Legal at the first session
will be identified and will need to be corrected as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about preparing your car prior to the first
session, please contact myself, Jim Volz 360-482-5539, or Brandon Biggs
(Tech) 360-612-0469, or Kevin Nations (Safety) 360-537-0966 .
Please visit www.quartermidgets.org
to find out more regarding rules, tech and safety. You can download and
print all the necessary rules and info sheets right from that site.
As
always, my door is always open & my phone never too busy to help
out a new ¼ midget family. Please feel free to call me & I will do
my best to point you in the best direction possible.
Turn right to go left,
