About The I-5 Quarter Midget Club!

Our History

The I-5 QMC leads its roots to hard work and the efforts by founders Clint Tibbits, Denny Geiger and Mark Pierce. The three men and their families put together a plan in 1996 to start a family oriented racing organization for kids. Little did they know how their efforts would be rewarded several years later.

The club took its name from the proximity of the nearby I-5 interstate to its first home at a rented dirt track facility in Chehalis, WA. The nature of the families utilizing the I-5 corridor from as far south as Portland, OR, gave more credence to the name then was initially imagined. A major characterization of the I-5 QMC has always been the willingness of the QMA members to travel extended distances to participate on the unique surface - always utilizing the I-5 interstate corridor.

After a few short years in Chehalis, the club needed to find a new place to race, so they moved to Vader, WA. They found a beautiful, serene setting, courtesy of one of their members. The club began to experience small growth, and was bound together like a tight knit family. All the while, the goals of the organization remained the same – families participating together. The only drawback the club ever faced was not having a home to call their own. That changed dramatically in the fall of 2003.

Facing the challenge of moving the club for the third time, club officials looked for a venue in which to find permanent residence. Off the beaten path, in a small town atmosphere, they found Elma, WA and the Grays Harbor Raceway. The small group of members put together a plan that resulted in several monumental accomplishments. In the short time span of just 26 weeks, the group of volunteers built a permanent quarter midget racing facility. They did it through hard work, determination, commitment and sacrifice. They did it for one reason, and it became their motto – “It’s for the kids.”

The Grays Harbor Mini Raceway, as the quarter midget facility is known, is the home of many QMA members who travel great distance via the I-5 corridor to participate on one of only two West Coast QMA dirt track surfaces. It is a distinction that the members of the I-5 QMC wear proudly. The community and its local government bodies, in which the club now resides, give a great amount of support, as they recognize the value of providing children and families the opportunity to work and play together. The I-5 QMC has worked hard at becoming involved within the community, and the seeds for continuing the success have been planted.

In a very short time span of just 10 years, the accomplishments of the I-5 QMC along with the Grays Harbor Mini Raceway have warranted a new motto – “Where the Legend Begins!” The best part is the fact that even though the new home is off the beaten path, the strength of the club still comes from the I-5 corridor and the vision of Clint, Denny and Mark.
